Transformations: Enlightenment in a Digital Age

Ismaili Centre Toronto, Toronto, Canada (September 1-December 31, 2016)

Curated by Zulfikar Hirji, this four-part exhibition asks about the possibilities of enlightenment in the 21st century by exploring engagements between art, science, technology, religion and philosophy in the selected contemporary art works of four Canadian artists: Faisal Anwar, Fareena Chanda, Jamelie Hassan and Ali Kazimi. These artists push and tease the established and often doctrinaire boundaries associated with the search for the spiritual. Their works provoke perennial questions about the purpose of human life through their embrace of a modern palette of artistic tools including 3D stereographic video, neon, industrial design, and social media.

Ali Kazimi, Oceans Within/Surface Tension, September 1-28, 2016

Faisal Anwar. Char Bagh: Sensory Garden, October 1–28, 2016
